Don Waisanen:
Public Dialogue and Deliberation division leadership

Don Waisanen is a Professor in the Baruch College, CUNY Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, and a board member of the CMM Institute. He teaches courses and workshops in public communication and engages in research focuses on the ways in which communication works to promote or hinder democracy. His contribution in this regard has recently been acknowledged with appointment to the leadership of the Public Dialogue and Deliberation division of the National Communication Association (NCA).
He is starting his four-year leadership term as vice-chair elect of the Public Dialogue and Deliberation division this year. His goal is to continue building on the admirable work that others in the division have carried out in advancing new research, supporting new practices and processes for gathering during the annual conference, creating greater connections with other divisions (some of which have roots in CMM, such as the social construction division), and especially by engaging further with outside publics and practitioners committed to the work of creating better social worlds.
