Sergej van Middendorp
Sergej is an action researcher who wonders how we can create healthy open systems in an increasingly complex world. In search for answers, he contributes to methods that help us distinguish between our phenomenal experience, neural embodiment, and cognitive unconscious so that we improve our capacity to jointly-act into the moment with expanded awareness.
In this, he examines the ways in which the metaphors that we use in our conversations become embodied in the systems that we are creating. In becoming aware of our use of metaphor, and of our ability to generate sustainable futures by improvising with metaphors, we can better cope with the complex and dynamic nature of the challenges in our systems in a broadly ecological sense.
Currently, with his ‘ingroove crew’ at Miles Ahead, Sergej facilitates a collaborative support network of communities and organizations to create an integral (digital) health system in The Netherlands. And in the CMM community, Sergej works towards expanding and improving our capacity for social construction by including metaphor in CMM and embodying metaphor theory and research in the CMM heuristics.
Sergej received a Ph.D. and an M.A in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University, an M.B.A. in General Management from Henley Business School and a B.B.A in Hotel Management from the Hotel Management school Maastricht.
